As with all biometric systems, facial recognition technology applies certain comparisons by matching for identification and verification of personal characteristic information. It is usually completed by means of a digital or connected camera in order to compare the used face detection systems with the information in the databases. After completing the comparison of the information received from the face recognition terminal on the software side, it finishes the visual verification of the faces.

A modern face recognition system starts from a high resolution (HD or UHD) digital image. First, Face Detection programs work by finding and framing human faces in the image, and ‘normalizing’ the faces, that is, they make the images taken from the front as much as possible, resize them and adjust the contrast with the light.

Then artificial intelligence software comes into play and creates a faceprint similar to a fingerprint. This trace consists of 128 measurements consisting of the dimensions of the eyebrows, eyes, nose, mouth, chin, ears, etc., and their distances from each other.

In the final stage, learning machine software, also working with artificial neural networks, compares the determined face print (that is, the numbers formed as a result of the measurements) with the facial prints in the database (sometimes hundreds of millions!) and finds the one most similar to that face (the one with the closest face print). .

Thus, the identity of the owner of a face in the image is determined in less than a second and with an accuracy of 99.5%.
